Baidu is the leading search provider in China and Nokia is going to benefit from its large user base, especially the frequent travelers. Nokia has entered into an agreement with Baidu under which HERE will provide the mapping data to Baidu maps users outside of China. A moment of rejoice for the Chinese travelers.
The desktop version of Baidu Maps uses HERE map content right now, with the Baidu Maps apps for Android and iOS adding content to cover Taiwan first, with other countries to follow. Baidu is the first Chinese company to offer location-based services to locals travelling abroad.
While Baidu maps might be rich in China, they don’t have as much international presence as does HERE and this partnership will benefit both sides. Baidu’s users will be more satisfied while HERE gets more customers.
