Nokia 1, which is the first Android Go smartphone from HMD Global, is now available in India. The device will go on sale at offline stores across the country for a price of ₹5,499. The phone comes in 2 color variants. These are – Warm Red and Dark Blue.
HMD Global will also sell the Xpress On covers which will be sold separately in the month of April. Xpress On covers are priced ₹450 each and will be offered in Azure+Grey or Yellow+Pink options.
60 GB Jio data and free insurance on offer: Nokia 1 buyers will also be eligible to get upto 60 GB of free data on the Jio network. The data will be offered as an add-on when you subscribe to specific plans offered by the operator. So, it is actually not free, instead just discounted. Nokia 1 buyers can also get a year of free insurance provided by Servify if they open a Kotak 811 bank account.
A few other OEMs have already launched Android Go devices in the Indian market. Nokia has the competition incoming when it comes to Android Go devices. On the other hand, companies such as Xiaomi sell decent hardware at a price point slightly higher than that of Nokia 1. So, we’ll have to see if consumers choose a Nokia 1 for the sake of Android Go or go with options from Chinese OEMs which run regular Android and cost slightly more.
