As announced by HMD in August, the original Nokia 2 reached the end of software support in November 2019. With the rollout of the November update, HMD Global is summing up the release of OS and security patches to the Nokia 2. Apart from that, the optional Oreo upgrade will be closed down too and so will be the Nougat downgrade.
So, if you are a Nokia 2 user, decide your final course of action. You will no longer be able to make this decision after the end of 2019.
- If you want to use Android 8.1: request the update from the Nokia website. Do note that you will not be able to roll back to Nougat once you take this optional update.
- If you want to downgrade to Android 7.1: If you have requested for the Nougat rollback in the past, then you will have a final chance to downgrade to Android 7.1.
HMD is also warning that before requesting the optional Android Oreo update, you should ensure that your device is on the November 2019 Android security patch.
However, the lack of updates doesn’t immediately make your Nokia 2 insecure immediately. Your device will continue to work normally and you can still do your secure operations such as internet banking. That said, you should stay aware! If any major vulnerability is found in the future, your device may face a risk of being compromised.
