Nokia 7 (TA-1041) & Nokia 6 (TA-1000) receiving the January security patch

Nokia 7

It’s 2018 and HMD’s commitment to keeping its devices updated is still going great! The Nokia 7 (TA-1041), which I am using for over a week now, and the Nokia 6 (TA-1000) are receiving the January Google security patch in China. The OTA update is a mere 70MB download for the Nokia 7 (112MB for Nokia 6) and the security patch is all that it brings.

Nokia 7 Jan patch

Google started the rollout of January patch to Pixel smartphones a few days back on 3rd of January. The exact date or rollout to Nokia 7 & 6 is unknown since the automatic check can delay it by a day or more. HMD is certainly one of the “rare few”OEMs who give importance to the latest security patches.

I am still awaiting the release of Android Oreo for the Nokia 7. The delay is reasonable (but not fully acceptable) since China is the only market where the Nokia 7 is sold. So, HMD’s focus rests more on the devices which are sold globally.
