This wasn’t announced by Nokia or HMD, but according to a report, Nokia phones will be made in India. The report does not specify if this will apply to only to the stocks for Indian market or the devices will also be exported to other markets.
Ajey Mehta, India VP at HMD Global, said that HMD plans to manufacture these phones through Foxconn in India from day one. The new Nokia Android phones are expected to hit stores in India by June this year.
Knowing that Foxconn has a manufacturing unit in India, this seems very practical. Manufacturing in India can also provide HMD with certain cost advantages in terms of taxes.
The report also mentions that Nokia phones will be sold through both online and offline channels. This is different from China where Nokia 6 is currently only being sold online at jd.com.
